The Alumni Of Stanford Biodesign Transforming Precision Nutrition In India

Aanan Khurma, Founder, Ketofy & WellversedIn 2014, when I (then 27 years old) was working on my first start-up - a medical devices company funded by Microsoft Ventures (Israel) and Healthbox (USA) - I started getting extremely disturbed by interactions with patients who had brought themselves to a bedridden condition due to the lifestyle that they chose. Having academically gone through physiology and anatomy, I knew that the human body is theoretically capable of being in a healthy state up to 120 years of age. Yet, somehow people were in extremely bad shape by the time they turned 60.

At that time, I became obsessed with health conditions that can be easily prevented. I also radically redefined my own lifestyle. More than being a health freak I became a proponent of healthspan maximization - the timespan until which a person is healthy and can function independently without medicines or support. I mapped out the 5 pillars of well-being - Precision Nutrition, Targeted Functional Training, Minimising Medication Intake, Meaningful Socialization and Stress Reduction/Spirituality.

Through my own health journey, I founded a health brand called FYNE Superfood that later got acquired by Sattviko. Later on, I collaborated with Aditya Seth and together we launched a fairly popular snacking brand called Unsnack. With a deeper understanding of the market and desire to venture into clinical nutrition, I and Aditya started exploring the idea of precision nutrition for the management of
lifestyle chronic conditions and maximization of healthspan. Both of us approached Ripunjay Chachan (also an alumnus of Stanford Biodesign) to join us and solve the lifestyle health epidemic sweeping through India and the world.

We worked with Doctors and Dietitians across the country to create precision products for people with Diabetes, Thyroid, PCOS, and Arthritis. Through Aditya's expertise in food product manufacturing, we innovated a way to craft quality ensured nutrition products at smaller scales without heavy capital investments.

Our efforts also led them to the creation of a food product brand called Ketofy which has quickly become the largest and the most loved Keto and Low Carb brand in India.

As we continue on our path to enabling maximum healthspan for humans, we are faced with some unique yet real challenges. On one end we see customer awareness as a real challenge and to compound the problem we see greedy brands exploiting unaware consumers to make a quick buck.

Wellversed caters to over 20,000 people in a month and they are rapidly scaling operations to help people with other health issues as well.

How Ketofy Is Redefining the Indian Diet
High carbohydrate intake is the source of the majority of the chronic conditions that have reached epidemic proportions in India. People are hooked on unhealthy food like sugar, rice, wheat flour, sugary beverages, sugary snacks, etc. like they are some kind of a drug. Most people who try to move to a healthier lifestyle are unable to do so because they cannot give up on their cravings. Ketofy is redefining the paradigm by not asking people to quit what they love to eat.

Ketofy has redefined the Indian diet by creating a complete parallel pantry of food products that is ultra-low in carbs, ultra-low in the glycemic index but rich in nutrition. So you can eat everything you love without worrying about their negative impact on your health. In fact, Ketofy products will help you balance your health parameters.

My primary learning was that people find it difficult to change so we have to craft food products that are fundamentally different. With this in mind, we were the first people in the world to launch the Keto Flour. Now we craft all products including cookies, savory snacks, chocolates, cooking supplies, beverages, etc. all of which are ultra-low in carbs and high in nutrition.
