Dr Vikrant Patil
Founder & Chief Audiologist
Founded in 2013 by globally trained audiologist Dr Vikrant Patil, the centre has grown to be a reputable name in audiology and speech -language services. With its specialized wing, the Speech Science Centre, the institution is noted for its stringent clinical standards, strong patient satisfaction focus, and innovative vision to make hearing and speech services available and world-class. Dr Vikrant Patil's journey from Australia and the United States back to India wasn't a return home so much as it was a mission.
Upon seeing the disparities in healthcare standards between the developed world and India, He was determined to bring world-class audiological and speech services to the underserved communities of India. His experiences abroad fueled his passion for building a clinic that not only upheld the highest international standards but was also sensitive to the unique needs of Indian patients. Seeing the huge difference between the best international practices and the poor quality of the services here, he conceived of a clinic that would stick assiduously to international standards but also address the specific requirements of the Indian people.
Thus, the Ear Science Centre was founded on scientific efficacy, patient-centred treatment, and ethical healthcare. From its humble start as an individual audiology clinic, it has since grown into a multidisciplinary centre staffed by 11 professionals in the form of audiologists, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, and support. The centre’s expansion reflects the rising demand for specialized care, particularly in previously underserved regions. The Speech Science Centre was a natural extension of this vision.
Advanced Diagnostics for Customized Hearing Care
Today, the centre offers structured programs for conditions ranging from articulation and fluency disorders to autism spectrum communi -cation challenges, making it a hub for comprehensive rehabilitation. What truly distinguishes the Ear Science Centre is its deep-dive diagnostic approach. Instead of relying solely on standard pure tone audiometry, the clinic incorporates advanced evaluations such as word recognition in noise, audible contrast threshold testing, and real-ear measurements, a gold standard in programming hearing aids for real-world performance. These diagnostics, conducted over 60 to 90 minutes, enable personalized hearing solutions tailored to patients’ lifestyles, occupations, and social needs. This scientific, individualized method has made them renowned for excellence and
precision in diagnosis. “At the Ear Science Centre, we feel that each person has the right to hear and communicate effectively”, states Dr Vikrant Patil.
The Ear Science Centre operates not just as a business but as a mission-driven healthcare institution. One of its most creative programs is the SWHAG protocol (Satisfaction with Hearing Aids Guaranteed), which enables patients to test hearing aids in real-world settings for as long as 20 days. This program guarantees that patients get to hear the hearing aids in their daily environments, whether at home, in the workplace, or among social groups, before finally deciding. It provides them with a real-world view of how the device operates, guaranteeing maximum satisfaction with their purchase. During this period, structured follow-ups are conducted, and if the device fails to meet expectations, patients are entitled to a refund. This uncommon offering demonstrates the centre’s confidence in its precision fitting process and a transparent, ethical approach to patient care. Not surprisingly, the centre has an outstanding retention rate of over 99 percent.
One of the centre’s most defining moments was the launch of its cochlear implant program. “For a child born deaf, the cost of one implant is ₹8.5 to ₹9 lakhs, unthinkable for most families here”, says Dr Vikrant Patil. Rather than turn away, he reached out to philanthropists across India. Ratan Tata responded, and that act of generosity sparked a program that has since funded implants for nearly 70 children. Government schemes had fallen short, but this endorsement unlocked other donor support. Just as importantly, each child receives two to three years of post-surgery therapy at the centre’s Speech Science wing. “Restoring hearing is just the start”, says Dr Vikrant Patil. “Helping a child learn to express and connect that’s the real success”, he adds.
Technology-Driven Care
Beyond clinical care, the centre is also a pioneer in integrating technology into healthcare delivery. Cloud based patient records enable effortless communication with families, even those residing overseas. At the same time, IoT-enabled and AI-based hearing aids can be adjusted remotely, providing convenience to tech-savvy patients. This visionary approach not only provides improved patient outcomes, but also puts the clinic at the forefront of contemporary hearing care. Working behind the scenes is a team that combines expertise with empathy.
From psychologists who counsel families to speech-language therapists with over a decade of experience, each member contributes to the centre’s nurturing environment. Support staff handles everything from therapy coordination to wheelchair access, demonstrating attention to the smallest details of patient comfort. Their dedication has not gone unnoticed. Dr Vikrant Patil has received multiple accolades, from the Young Scientist Award to inclusion in the India 5000 MSME rankings. These awards are not just personal milestones but affirmations of the centre’s commitment to ethical, science-based, patient-first healthcare.
Future Pathway
Looking ahead the Ear Science Centre is poised for its next leap. With growing patient footfall, plans are underway to expand the team beyond the current 11 professionals, ensuring even more personalized care. The recently launched Speech Science Centre dedicated exclusively to speech and language therapy, is set to scale as a standalone service, deepening the impact on children with communication challenges. A key focus ahead is school collaborations, aimed at supporting children with hearing loss as they transition into mainstream education. And in the long term, Dr Vikrant Patil envisions a dedicated school for hearing-impaired children, a space tailored to their learning and communication needs, blending inclusive education with specialized support. “The goal is not just treatment, it’s transformation. We want every child to learn, express, and thrive without limits”, says Dr Vikrant Patil. With technology, compassion, and expertise at its core, the centre is not just growing, it's redefining what care can look like. In a world where being heard is everything, Ear Science Centre ensures no voice goes unheard.
