Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, expressed deep gratitude to medical teams from India, China, and Singapore for their swift and heartfelt response in treating victims of the recent plane crash in Dhaka.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Yunus revealed that he met a delegation of 21 doctors and nurses from the three countries at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka. The international medical professionals are currently in the capital to provide specialised care to survivors of the crash at Milestone School and College, where the majority of victims were children.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday when a Chinese-made F-7 BGI training fighter jet crashed into a two-storey school building shortly after take-off due to a mechanical failure. The crash claimed 32 lives, including 26 children, and left many others critically injured.
“These teams have come not just with their skills, but with their hearts", Yunus said during the meeting. “Their presence reaffirms our shared humanity and the value of global partnerships in times of tragedy".
He lauded the teams’ rapid response and commitment during the crisis and assured full government support for their ongoing efforts. Yunus also called for long-term collaborations with Bangladesh’s health sector, proposing initiatives such as virtual cooperation, institutional tie-ups, medical education exchanges, and capacity building.
“This tragedy should become the foundation of stronger public health partnerships and emergency preparedness,” he stated.
