Online Chikitsa Mitra, a leading rural health-tech start-up in India, recently held a free health check-up camp at the Chandanwari Base Camp during the Amarnath Yatra. The camp provided essential healthcare services to over 5,000 pilgrims last week.

The Amarnath Yatra, a spiritually significant pilgrimage, attracts devotees from across the nation. The challenging trek to the Amarnath Cave, located at an altitude of 3,800 meters, poses health risks such as severe exhaustion and high-altitude sickness due to its demanding nature and rugged terrain. This year, 350,000 pilgrims have registered for the yatra.

In response to the need for accessible healthcare in this high-altitude environment, Online Chikitsa Mitra set up a comprehensive health camp offering first aid, general health check-ups, altitude sickness treatment, emergency medical services, and teleconsultations with specialist doctors. The camp was equipped with modern medical facilities and staffed by experienced healthcare professionals led by Dr. Silsila Leishangthem Rawat, a General Practitioner and Diabetologist, who provided expert care to the pilgrims.

Smriti Tandon, Co-Founder of Online Chikitsa Mitra, highlighted the camp’s significance, stating, “Our mission is to make quality healthcare accessible to everyone, regardless of their location. By offering crucial medical services at the Amarnath base camp, we aimed to support the pilgrims’ spiritual journey and ensure their health and safety”.

She also acknowledged the collaborative effort in making the initiative possible, saying, “This endeavor was supported by the J&K government, the Amarnath Shrine Board, our partner doctors, and Army officials, all sharing the vision to improve healthcare access for the pilgrims”.

Building on the success of this camp, Online Chikitsa Mitra plans to extend its reach by organizing similar health check-up camps at various tourist and pilgrimage sites across India. The goal is to ensure that essential healthcare services are available to those in need, regardless of their location.
