Metropolis Healthcare Expands Diagnostics Network in Western Maharashtra

- Metropolis Healthcare acquires Ambika Pathology to grow in Western Maharashtra.
- Adds 4,000+ advanced diagnostic tests, expanding services in Kolhapur and nearby towns.
- Strengthens Metropolis’ goal to improve diagnostics in smaller cities and rural areas.
Metropolis Healthcare, India’s second largest diagnostic chain, has expanded its footprint in Western Maharashtra by acquiring Ambika Pathology Laboratory, based in Kolhapur. This acquisition is part of Metropolis’ ongoing ‘String of Pearls’ strategy, aimed at creating strong regional clusters to bring advanced diagnostics closer to patients.
Ambika Pathology, founded in 1995 by Dr. Rajendra Sadashiv Patil, is a well-known NABL accredited lab with 12 patient centers and a loyal customer base in Kolhapur and surrounding areas. Joining Metropolis will transform Ambika into a mini regional reference lab, offering over 4,000 specialty and advanced diagnostic tests. This will improve diagnostic options for people in Kolhapur and other Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns nearby.
Maharashtra contributes about 40% of Metropolis Healthcare’s revenue, making this acquisition especially important. Ameera Shah, Promoter and Executive Chairperson of Metropolis, highlighted that the company is committed to increasing access to quality diagnostics in the state, particularly in underserved regions. Managing Director Surendran Chemmenkotil added that the acquisition will strengthen Metropolis’ Western Maharashtra cluster and expand its specialized testing capabilities.

Dr. Rajendra Sadashiv Patil welcomed the partnership, saying it marks a new chapter for healthcare in Kolhapur by bringing global diagnostic standards and more advanced services to the region.
The deal is expected to improve test availability, reduce turnaround times, and leverage Metropolis’ technology to provide faster and more efficient diagnostics. This focus on regional growth aims to benefit healthcare providers and patients alike by enhancing service quality in smaller cities.
