Manipal Hospital Sarjapur Road organized an awareness program titled 'Move With Ease, Live With Confidence' to help people recognize early symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. Doctors noted that the earliest signs such as a slight tremor, stiffness, or minor balance issues often go unnoticed or are mistaken for normal aging.
Leading neurologists from the hospital, including Dr. Shivakumar R, Dr. Lakshmi Krishna V, Dr. Swati N Patil, and neuro-spine surgeon Dr. Ajay Hegde, addressed participants and shared insights on early detection and effective management. They emphasized that movement disorders can be treated and controlled when identified early.
Dr. Shivakumar stressed that many patients hide their symptoms due to social stigma. He encouraged families and caregivers to be more understanding and supportive. Highlighting the role of physical activity, he said exercise strengthens the body and supports brain recovery through neuroplasticity. He also urged people to pay attention to sleep issues, which can signal neurological problems.
Dr. Lakshmi Krishna explained that Parkinson’s is a manageable neurological disorder, not an inevitable part of aging. She said timely diagnosis, proper medication, physiotherapy, and supportive caregiving help patients live almost normal lives for many years.
Adding to this, Dr. Swati Patil noted that movement is at the core of daily life and emotional expression. She encouraged people to seek early medical advice and approach treatment proactively.
