The Karnataka government preparing for an initiative which aims to maximise advancements in med-tech to develop healthcare delivery, streamline operations, and increase access to medical services in both urban and rural areas.
The government is looking for partnerships to enhance its public healthcare system through the functioning of medical technology across its 31 districts.
These will focus on areas like telemedicine implementation, especially in underserved or remote areas. Deploying electronic health records (EHR) and other health management systems will improve data management, patient tracking, and coordination of care by integrating advanced diagnostic tools and equipment to enhance disease discovery and treatment capabilities. Training to healthcare professionals will successfully use new technologies and ensure that the systems are utilized to their fullest potential. Collaborating with technology companies, healthcare-providers and other stakeholders will bring innovative solutions and expertise into the public healthcare system. Upgrading existing healthcare infrastructure will support the integration of new technologies.
The focus areas in healthcare have been charted out a roadmap for the next 3-5 years for augmenting public health systems with innovative, indigenous health solutions in Karnataka with aiming for affordability, accessibility, and value at scale. It has noted that through this planned initiative, CSR (corporate social responsibility) and philanthropy partners can enable joint projects led by the state government and C-CAMP (Centre for Cellular Molecular Platform) for example is aimed at implementing much-needed new health technologies.
Minister for health and family welfare, Dinesh Gundu Rao, said, “Reflecting on our journey, we’re more determined than ever to make Karnataka a model for healthcare excellence. The progress we’ve seen is proof of the power of collaborative efforts. By leveraging CSR and philanthropic support, we aim to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, ensuring that every citizen benefits from high-quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare. We look forward to new ideas and ongoing efforts that will pave the way for a healthier future for Karnataka”.
“Healthcare worldwide is advancing by leaps and bounds but what remains is to democratise access to these advances for the common public. Through industry and private partnership funded projects, like Infosys Foundation and ACT for Health, and backed by a strong drive from the Govt. of Karnataka, we are aiming to introduce deep-science and technology-driven, quality health technologies solutions to significantly impact public healthcare. Particularly in certain critical areas that need immediate intervention such as maternal and child health, rapid diagnostics, screening technologies, and digitally enabled healthcare to achieve the required scale”, Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed, C-CAMP director-CEO said.
