A report from the jobs platform foundit (formerly known as Monster APAC & ME) reveals that India's healthcare sector is rapidly growing, with hiring in the industry increasing by 62% year-on-year and generating over 7.5 million jobs. The report highlights a 7% rise in hiring over the past three months, emphasizing the sector's dynamic expansion and changing workforce landscape.

The healthcare industry is experiencing significant growth and transformation, driven by technological advancements and a rising demand for medical services. There is a notable surge in the need for AI/ML engineers, data analysts, and product managers, reflecting the sector's ongoing digital transformation.

V. Suresh, CEO of foundit, stated, “India’s healthcare sector is entering a new era where technology and talent are driving transformative change.” He added that the latest data indicates a substantial increase in demand for roles in AI, digital health, and informatics, showcasing a sector-wide shift towards innovation and patient-centered care. Suresh also pointed out the dual momentum of strong job creation and a growing commitment to gender diversity and inclusion. “As we celebrate World Health Day, this evolution is not just a headline; it’s a compelling narrative about how healthcare is fostering meaningful, future-ready careers,” he noted.

In addition to major metropolitan areas, cities like Pune, Kochi, and Kolkata are also experiencing robust growth in healthcare hiring, with Pune leading the way at a 10% month-on-month growth rate.

While the healthcare sector has a commendable female workforce representation of 38%, leadership roles remain predominantly male, with women occupying only 4% of these positions. To address this imbalance, the report suggests that healthcare organizations should implement targeted leadership development programs and diversity hiring policies with specific benchmarks to enhance female representation in senior roles. These initiatives can help dismantle barriers and promote gender equity in leadership and specialized medical fields.
