- Aims to develop over 1,500 sustainability professionals and establish Centres of Excellence for policy-driven, interdisciplinary innovation.
The Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT-I) has unveiled two groundbreaking BTech programmes in collaboration with the Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation (MFF). These first-of-their-kind programmes focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare and Medical Device Innovations, and Environmental Economics and Sustainable Engineering. The initiatives are part of the launch of two new academic entities the School of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering and the School of Sustainability.
The School of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering will centre on AI applications in healthcare, drug discovery, bioinformatics, wearable technologies, and bio-manufacturing. It will also address pressing health issues such as chikungunya, dengue, and antimicrobial resistance. Notably, the collaboration plans to establish a dedicated bio-manufacturing hub, an industry-oriented facility for the technical de-risking of enzyme, smart proteins, and API scale-up in India.
Complementing this, the School of Sustainability will focus on critical areas like energy systems, battery technology, environmental economics, environmental law, and water and climate studies. The school will also host three Centres of Excellence aimed at driving research and solutions aligned with policy-making.
“This collaboration with the Mehta Family Foundation is not just about two schools it is about a new chapter in IIT Indore's evolution”, said Dr Suhas Joshi, Director, IIT Indore. “It exemplifies how academic excellence, international collaboration, and social vision can intersect to address real-world challenges”.
