HMEL & AIIMS Bathinda Partner to Deliver Doorstep Healthcare in Rural Areas
- HMEL and AIIMS Bathinda have launched a mobile healthcare and telemedicine initiative to expand access to quality medical services in rural areas.
- The project will serve 59 villages in Punjab and Haryana, providing regular consultations, diagnostics, medicines, and specialist support.
- Around 1.5 lakh rural residents are expected to benefit from doorstep care, including primary treatment, referrals, and tele-consultations with AIIMS experts.
HMEL Guru Gobind Singh Refinery has partnered with AIIMS Bathinda to roll out an integrated mobile medical unit and telemedicine program aimed at improving access to healthcare in rural areas. The initiative will deliver essential medical services directly to villages near the refinery in Bathinda district and nearby parts of Haryana.
The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Monday. Under the project, 59 adopted villages will receive primary healthcare services, benefiting nearly 25,000 families or over 1.5 lakh rural residents. The MoU was signed in the presence of AIIMS Bathinda Executive Director Prof. Rattan Gupta and senior HMEL officials, including COO M B Gohil and VP Human Leadership Ashok Kumar.
As part of the initiative, two fully equipped mobile medical units will operate on a regular schedule across the villages. Each unit will include an AIIMS doctor, nurse, pharmacist, and project coordinator. The vans will carry diagnostic tools, essential medicines, oxygen support, nebulizers, and primary treatment equipment.
All patients will be registered through a digital health record system to ensure proper follow-up and continuity of care. Patients needing advanced treatment will be referred to AIIMS Bathinda or nearby government hospitals through a structured referral process. A feedback and grievance system will also be in place to improve service quality.

A key feature of the program is specialist telemedicine, allowing villagers to consult AIIMS doctors in cardiology, orthopedics, gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and general medicine. These sessions will follow a fixed schedule to ensure consistent access.
The project will also focus on health awareness through IEC and BCC activities, with support from ASHA workers, schools, and local panchayats. In addition, eight mega specialty health camps will be organized during the project period.
