  • Aims to strengthen India’s biotech innovation and self-reliance

Alkem Foundation, the CSR arm of Alkem Laboratories, has partnered with IIT Bombay to establish a cutting-edge research center dedicated to immunotherapeutics and regenerative medicines. The Alkem Centre for Advanced Research and Development will be built on the IIT Bombay campus and aims to bridge critical gaps in biotechnology infrastructure, talent, and innovation.

Alkem Foundation plans to allocate 20-25% of its total CSR contributions over the next seven years to fund the center. The initiative is poised to set a national benchmark for industry-academia collaborations, with the goal of creating affordable, high-impact healthcare solutions and boosting India’s position in global biotech research.

The research center will serve as a hub for innovation, skill-building, and translational research, particularly in high-precision medicines. It will also offer incubation and training support for clinician-scientists and biotech startups, enhancing India's life sciences ecosystem.

Madhurima Singh, Executive Director of Alkem Foundation, said, “Despite government support, only a small share of CSR funds are directed toward R&D”. He added, “This partnership reflects our commitment to developing healthcare solutions in India, for India and the world”.

IIT Bombay Director Shireesh B. Kedare echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the center will drive clinical breakthroughs, reduce import dependency, and support India’s journey toward self-reliance in healthcare innovation.
