Diagnostics labs are the engine rooms of health care, transforming patient samples into precise, actionable data. Today’s diagnostic cen ters are no longer confined to hospitals, they operate as independent hubs, equipped with automated analyzers, cloud-based LIMS, and barcoded tracking to reduce errors and speed up reporting.

Mobile phlebotomy, tele-report access, and AI-powered screening are enabling labs to reach both rural and urban patients. Sen Diagnos tics has emerged as a leading name in Bihar’s diagnostic healthcare sector, built on a legacy of excellence, innovation, and persnalized care.

Established in 1965 by the late Dr Dilip Sen, a visionary pathologist who transitioned from a government role to private practice, the lab was among the earliest of its kind in the region. With advanced training from the UK and a passion for patient-centered diagnostics, Dr Dilip laid the foundation for what would become a pioneering institution.

Under the leadership of Dr Sandeep Sen, son of the founder Dr Dilip Sen, the lab expanded significantly introducing cutting-edge automation, digital systems, and strategic partnerships with national and international health organizations such as Foundation Mérieux and the Clinton Health Access Initiative. His initiatives brought advanced diagnostic platforms and robust quality systems to the forefront, reinforcing the lab’s role as a regional leader in pathology.

Today, the third generation continues the tradition of progress. Dr Indroneel Sen, Managing Director and an MD in Pathology from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, has infused the lab with new energy by advancing digital integration through cloud-based LIMS and spearheading a franchise model aimed at extending quality diagnostics across Bihar.

Recognizing his expertise and Sen Diagnostics’ pivotal role in pathology and microbiology, Dr Indroneel was appointed as an honorary advisor to the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority for their Mobile Pathology and Microbiology Lab Project. This initiative aims to deliver critical diagnostic services to disaster-affected regions of Bihar, further strengthening the lab’s commitment to public health.

What distinguishes Sen Diagnostics is its human connection in an increasingly automated world. While many providers rely solely on digital interfaces, Sen Diagnostics ensures every patient receives attentive care and direct access to medical experts. Offering a full spectrum of diagnostic services, Sen Diagnostics stands as a symbol of dependable, progressive, and patient-focused healthcare in India.

“One of the biggest challenges we face is maintaining the highest quality as we grow, because for us, it’s not just about scaling, it’s
about staying true to our patient-centric model. We focus on delivering care with a human touch, and that means finding and retaining well trained professionals is critical”, asserts Dr Indroneel.

Accuracy & Quality Assurance

Sen Diagnostics upholds diagnostic accuracy and reliability across all tests, irrespective of its complexity or clinical urgency. The lab follows strict internal quality control protocols, conducting daily checks on all machines to ensure optimal performance before any testing begins.

In addition to these internal measures, the lab participates in two prominent External Quality Assurance Programs (EQAPs), one by Bio-Rad USA, a globally respected leader in diagnostic quality systems, and another by AIIMS Delhi, one of India’s premier medical institutions.

These programs routinely benchmark Sen Diagnostics’ results against national and international standards to ensure consistency and precision. The lab’s adherence to global best practices is further validated by its accreditations including NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) and ISO 9001:2015 certification.

Our goal is to decentralize services and bring high quality, accredited diagnostic testing closer to rural populations

Efficiency & Data Security

At Sen Diagnostics, the integration of advanced digital systems plays a crucial role in ensuring seamless operations, timely reporting, and secure data management. The laboratory initially adopted a UNIX-based Laboratory Information Management System(LIMS) in 1984, custom coded by Dr Sandeep Sen to automate key workflows, from patient registration and billing to barcode generation and direct machine-to-report data transfer.

In recent years, the lab transitioned to Crelio Health, a globally recognized cloud-based LIMS provider, to further enhance efficiency and scalability. “This system supports real-time data processing, minimizes human error, and ensures 24/7 access to reports for patients via a secure, OTP authenticated mobile application. Hosted on robust and encrypted Amazon Services servers, the platform ensures high standards of data security and privacy”, informs Dr Indroneel.

Expanding Access Across Bihar

Sen Diagnostics has long demonstrated its commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure, particularly in underserved regions of Bihar. In the early 2000s, the lab played a pivotal role in the National Rural Health Mission through a public-private partnership with the Government of Bihar. As part of this initiative, Sen Diagnostics helped establish satellite labs in district hospitals and primary health centers, significantly increasing patient access to quality testing.

Looking ahead, Sen Diagnostics aims to revive and build on this legacy. The roadmap for the coming year includes setting up additional satellite labs and mobile sample collection centers across Bihar. The goal is to decentralize services and bring high-quality, accredited diagnostic testing closer to rural populations.

“We are excited to work more closely with local clinics and healthcare providers so we can reach more people and offer care that truly lasts. We are also planning to bring the best of global medical technology, like AI-powered diagnostics, right to the doorsteps of every person in Bihar, making quality healthcare not just a promise, but a reality for all”, concludes Dr Indroneel.
