However, the motivation to pursue a career in plastic surgery was largely shaped by his experience as a cancer specialist at Tata Memorial Hospital, where he gained insight into the essential roles of plastic surgeries. During this time, he discovered his inherent creative abilities, which align well with the versatility of plastic surgery in restoring a patient’s body, profile, or facial features. His engagement in artistic pursuits such as sketching, playing the violin, and writing poetry, enhanced his passion for this creative field. A pivotal aspect of his motivation stems from the positive outcomes associated with plastic surgery and the corresponding satisfaction expressed by patients. “The process of restoration not only elicits happiness in those receiving care but also brings fulfillment to the caregivers involved. Dr Anshuman is particularly passionate about emergency surgeries. Dr Anshuman says, “Emergency Healthcare is a very important aspect and is very poorly organized. Restoration after injuries is a crucial aspect of plastic surgery, as it involves treating various types of damage, including hand injuries, facial injuries, and cases where blood vessels are severed. Also, injuries such as in facial injuries, nose or jaw fractures need special care because they also impact the aesthetic appearance. These are vital areas where our expertise is necessary. Being able to provide emergency healthcare seems incredibly fulfilling to me”. He has launched India’s first digital emergency healthcare platform, the ‘Namaste Health’ mobile app, which connects patients with nearby hospitals via video call within one minute, thus saving lives which can be lost in a few minutes even before one can reach the hospital. In less severe cases, one can get correct guidance and treatment promptly.

Dr Anshuman also acknowledges the challenge of managing realistic expectations in aesthetic procedures. While advanced technologies like 3D imaging improve outcomes, he emphasizes the need for clear communication about what is achievable. Ongoing patient follow-up is crucial to ensure adherence to post-operative protocols and achieve the best results. He states, “India is making significant strides in providing quality plastic surgery treatments. However, many people have unrealistic expectations and face various challenges such as cost, making the right treatment decisions, and finding qualified plastic surgeons or cosmetic specialists. I advise everyone to thoroughly research and verify the qualifications, affiliations, and expertise of potential specialists”. Dr Anshuman recognizes the importance of staying updated in his field, and thus he regularly indulges in reading medical journals and attending conferences, which provide valuable opportunities to gain knowledge, deliver lectures, and network with fellow professionals. He also finds YouTube to be a helpful resource for learning from the practices of others.

Dr Anshuman has had an enriching career in plastic surgery, performing numerous procedures throughout his tenure. He believes that patient satisfaction is a reward in itself. One of his most significant achievements was the reconstruction of an amputated penis in 2003. The patient had penile cancer, and successfully reconstructing the amputated organ was an exhilarating experience for both the patient and the medical team.

Well, as healthcare science is constantly advancing, Dr Anshuman aspires to continue growing in his field. He aims to lead his journey as a Reformer for Emergency Care through Namaste Health Mobile App, which has been found worthy for a collaboration by Suburban Railways, Mumbai (western). Additionally, he wishes to support patients with lymphedema. His goals also include reaching out to more Tier-II cities through his organization and addressing the needs of the transgender and LGBTQ community in a meaningful way, leveraging his expertise in plastic and cosmetic surgery.
