Busting Myths & Misconceptions
“I can promise you that getting a hair transplant is completely safe, especially if it is done by a board-certified MD hair transplant surgeon. We utilize tiny pinprick needles for local anesthetic, which are comparable to insulin syringes, and the process is painless. Patients are awake and able to converse, eat, take breaks, use their phones, and listen to music during the procedure", informs Dr Vinod.
"The question of whether hair transplants can cause cancer is another prevalent one, however, they do not. There is no link between the operation and cancer, nor does it affect the brain, ears, nose, throat, or teeth. It merely involves moving hair from the back of the head to the front. It is performed at the skin level, making it harmless and free of side effects. Patients often ask about downtime, and I am happy to say that you can resume your duties within two or three days, requiring only a day or two of rest", continues Dr Vinod.
After ensuring that the patient is in good health and does not have any serious conditions such as heart, kidney, or brain diseases, Dr Vinod operates on them at any age between 20 and 70. The treatment is even safe for people with regulated blood pressure or diabetes. After a few injections of local anesthetic into the back of the scalp, the process starts in the morning with hair clipping. Hair roots are then extracted from this area. Before implantation, patients are placed in a supine position and given more injections to the front of their scalp. The entire process typically takes five to seven hours, allowing patients to return home within seven to eight hours.
Pioneering Advanced Techniques & Learnings
The most cutting-edge methods for hair transplant surgery are used at Dr Vinod’s clinic, which does not use the conventional root touch approach. Dr Vinod's approach handles grafts at the shaft level, guaranteeing the roots stay safe and sound. The likelihood of hair damage and transplant failure is decreased with this technique. The DHI approach, which reduces wound size and encourages quicker healing, is also used in the clinic. The flexibility of hand movement enables exact direction, depth, and angle to create hairlines that look natural. He utilizes advanced hairline devices for optimal results and incorporates PRP solution as a graft-holding medium to enhance graft quality and survival rates.
Prioritizing Post-Operative Care
“For those having hair transplant surgeries, I stress the significance of post-operative care. Protecting the scalp from dust, pollution, and possible trauma like striking their head when getting into a car is something I tell my patients to do. I suggest a post-operative care plan that includes applying ointment to the scalp, removing the bandage after three to four days, and spraying saline solutions for five days. For optimal outcomes and good recovery, patients are encouraged to refrain from activities such as swimming, wearing helmets, or doing strenuous exercise", concludes Dr Vinod.
