Dr Jagan Mohan Reddy foray into the Bariatrics is backed by MBBS from the Kurnool Medical College, followed by MCh Surgical Gastroenterology from the Narayana Medical College. With a passion for academic excellence, this recognized healthcare leader has also been acclaimed as a gold medalist and best outgoing student during both his graduation and postgraduation.

However, his career embarks work experience starting off at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences as an Assistant Professor in the Department of GI Surgery, and then a Consultant & Surgical Gastroenterologist in Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad. Currently, he is a designated Senior Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist & Robotic Surgeon, Advanced Laparoscopic & Metabolic Surgeon, HPB & Colorectal Surgeon at Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City, Hyderabad.

“Obesity is a widespread disease that affects millions of people around the world. It's even more dangerous than the recent COVID pandemic because it has no boundaries. Throughout my life, I've seen people struggling with their weight and going through cycles of dieting and exercising without long-term success. This often takes a toll on their morale and can impact their careers. With over a decade of experience, today he specializes in Advanced Laparoscopic GI Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Pancreatic Surgery, Comprehensive Bariatric Programmes, and Advanced Robotic Surgery. Additionally, he also holds various certifications and has worked in various medical institutions to enhance his skills and provide the best possible care to his patients.
He has even published scientific papers in national & international journals, presented e-posters, and delivered guest lectures at various conferences.

The two main types of bariatric surgical procedures are restrictive and malabsorptive. The restrictive type involves reducing the stomach volume using stapler technology to decrease food intake. This method also affects hormone balance, particularly the Ghrelin hormone, which reduces appetite. On the other hand, malabsorptive procedures involve bypassing the food with a loop attached to the stomach, resulting in malabsorption and weight loss. Gastric bypass is often performed for patients with morbid obesity and diabetes. Additionally, endoscopic therapy, such as the Allurion balloon, offers a less invasive option for those looking to lose a smaller amount of weight. Other advancements in bariatric surgery include robotic surgery, which offers advantages such as less pain, faster recovery, and improved anatomical precision. It's important for patients to fully understand these procedures before making any decisions.

In bariatric surgery, weight regain is a common issue for some patients. Approximately eight out of 10 patients who experience weight regain tend to abandon the healthy lifestyle changes they initially adopted after surgery, usually within one year. It's crucial for these patients to maintain a disciplined lifestyle after surgery.
