Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has expressed gratitude to India for its strong commitment and support to the landmark Pandemic Accord adopted this week. The treaty was finalized after three years of intense negotiations and was unanimously adopted by member countries at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) held in Geneva.
In a social media post on platform X, Dr. Tedros acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for joining the assembly virtually during this historic occasion and praised India’s dedicated role in the process.
Addressing the WHA through video link, PM Modi highlighted that the WHO Pandemic Treaty represents a shared global responsibility. He emphasized that combating future pandemics effectively requires stronger international cooperation. The Prime Minister also reaffirmed India’s readiness to share its experiences and best practices with the international community, particularly supporting countries in the Global South.
The Pandemic Accord marks a significant step toward building a more resilient global health system to better respond to future health crises.
