Faridabad-based Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) successfully held the second edition of its flagship industry-business meet, SYNCHN 2025, on July 14. The event brought together a diverse assembly of industry leaders, funders, and policymakers, all aligned with a shared vision: advancing India's leadership in health innovation through strategic collaboration.
In his inaugural address, Prof Ganesan Karthikeyan, Executive Director, THSTI, emphasized the importance of actionable partnerships and the pressing need for multidisciplinary, large-scale projects. He underlined THSTI’s commitment to building robust ecosystems that seamlessly connect academic institutions and industry for impactful translational outcomes.
A highlight of the event was the 'Insights into Translational Science' session, which spotlighted existing collaborations with THSTI.
-Dr Prabuddha Kundu of Premas Biotech reaffirmed support for India's leadership in vaccines.
-Dr Sivakumar Natarajan of Miltenyi Biotec stressed the need to bridge skill gaps in Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) through specialized training programs.
-Dr Khalid from Panacea Biotec showcased THSTI's role in collaborative vaccine R&D under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
-Dr Varun Sureja from Sundyota Numandis Pharmaceuticals highlighted rapid technology transfer and indigenous microbiome product development as key success stories.
In the 'Expanding Capacities' session, attendees learned about THSTI’s Medical Research Centre (MRC), the upcoming Translational Research Facility (TRF), and the proposed Biopark at NCR Biotech Science Cluster. These facilities are aimed at streamlining the journey from lab discoveries to scalable medical solutions.
A panel discussion on 'Challenges and Opportunities in Industry Academia Collaboration' delved into product commercialization, pricing strategies, and bridging institutional R&D with market needs.
Delivering the keynote, Dr Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary, DBT, and DG, BRIC, called for greater industry investment in health innovation to achieve ‘Viksit Bharat’. He highlighted India's global reputation in affordable vaccines and generics and urged stakeholders to support sustainable, scalable solutions for inclusive growth.
