Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat called for making quality healthcare and education both affordable and accessible, saying that these essential services remain beyond the reach of many citizens due to high costs and limited availability.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Madhav Srishti Arogya Kendra, set up by philanthropic body Guruji Seva Nyas to offer affordable cancer treatment, Bhagwat highlighted the need to focus on 'Dharma' a value that unites and uplifts society instead of merely using technical terms like corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“Good healthcare and education have become a necessity for everyone, yet quality facilities in these sectors are financially out of reach for the common man”, Bhagwat said, adding that earlier such work was done in a spirit of service but has now become commercialised.

He cautioned that commercialisation often leads to centralisation of facilities, especially in the corporate era where education centres turn into hubs. “The need of the hour is to provide accessible, affordable, compassionate and easy facilities in healthcare and education across as many locations as possible”, he stressed.

Expressing concern over the high cost of cancer treatment, Bhagwat noted that advanced facilities are available in only eight to ten cities in India, forcing patients to spend heavily on travel and treatment. He urged capable and resourceful individuals to contribute towards improving healthcare and education access.

Rejecting purely formal approaches to social welfare, Bhagwat said, “Terms like CSR are technical. In the context of service, we have ‘dharma’, which means fulfilling social responsibility. Dharma unites and uplifts society”.

He also praised the Indian medical system for its personalised approach compared to the West’s uniform standards. “Western countries apply uniform healthcare standards globally, but Indian systems treat patients based on individual needs”, he said.

Bhagwat acknowledged the value of multiple medical disciplines, noting that for some ailments, even Allopathic doctors recommend Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic or Naturopathic treatments. “I am not claiming any system is superior or inferior, but keeping in mind human diversity, patients should be provided all available options”, he remarked.

The newly inaugurated Madhav Srishti Arogya Kendra will offer a wide range of treatments including Allopathy, Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Homoeopathy, acupuncture and neuropathy, aiming to make comprehensive care accessible to all.
