SS Innovations, a maker of Made-in-India surgical robotic systems, announced a significant milestone on Friday with the successful performance of robotic cardiac surgery via telesurgery over a distance of 2,000 kilometers. The procedure was conducted from the company's headquarters in Gurugram on a 35-year-old patient at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru.

The surgery, which lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes, involved closing a complex Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a congenital heart condition characterized by a small hole between the heart's upper chambers. The operation showcased remarkable precision and low latency, highlighting the effectiveness of robotic-assisted remote surgery.

Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations, described the event as a transformative moment for surgical care in India. He emphasized that the SSI Mantra system is designed to bridge healthcare gaps, ensuring that world-class surgical expertise is accessible even in remote areas.
Dr. Arul Furtado, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Aster CMI Hospital, praised the user-friendly nature of the SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System, noting that it allowed for a seamless and confident execution of the procedure.

The SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System is the first in the world to receive regulatory approval for telesurgery and tele-proctoring from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), paving the way for remote surgeries and enhanced medical education across distances.
