The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco personally called for India's support to upgrade healthcare infrastructure in Angola during his delegation-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, MEA Secretary for Economic Relations Dammu Ravi said, "There was a lot of discussion on health. President Lourenco had specifically requested India's help in the field of healthcare, including physicians and paramedics. There is a huge demand because they are building new hospitals to expand their healthcare sector. The Honorable Prime Minister also referred to the potential of providing vaccines, medicines, and pharma products to Africa and setting up Janaushadhi centers in Angola. We will take this opportunity forward."
MEA officials further added that talks covered space and digital infrastructure-related topics.
"One of the areas of cooperation that the two leaders discussed is space. Angola has a satellite mission control center already, and it's maintained now with Russian and French support. India can provide low-cost satellite launch technologies, which the Honorable Prime Minister suggested to Angola. We will see how we can increase this area of common interest, as there are vast possibilities," he added.
"Digital Public Infrastructure was also discussed, which has much potential for Angola, though it is a new frontier for them. The Right Honorable Prime Minister dwelt on its advantage and how it could enhance the governance and make life easier, which was appreciated by President Lourenco. We will explore how our exports can bring this project forward," the official added.
Besides, India and Angola have decided to enhance defense cooperation, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending $200 million lines of credit to the defense sector during President Lourenco's visit.
