  • Assam Rifles land in Aizawl to be repurposed for healthcare, public use, and urban development.
  • Aizawl Police Station may be relocated to enable expansion of Aizawl Civil Hospital.
  • Over 52% of the land allocated for parks, walkways, and community spaces under a sustainable Master Plan.

In a major move toward urban renewal and inclusive planning, the Advisory Committee overseeing the repurposing of the vacated Assam Rifles land in Aizawl held a high-level meeting this week, chaired by Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma. Key proposals discussed focused on healthcare infrastructure, public amenities, and road connectivity.

One of the most critical proposals involves relocating the Aizawl Police Station to the former Assam Rifles site. The Health Department suggested this shift to facilitate the long-awaited expansion of the Aizawl Civil Hospital, which has faced space constraints due to the police station’s current location.

The meeting brought together officials from the Mizoram Synod, local landowners, and several government departments. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department proposed the construction of water supply infrastructure across three plots, subject to design clearance.

Infrastructure was another major focus, with the Public Works Department (PWD) assigned to assess the feasibility of building five connecting roads to enhance access to the redeveloped land. Consultations with local residents and institutions will guide these developments.

A draft Master Plan presented by Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Secretary Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau highlighted a vision for sustainable and people-centric development. More than 52% of the land is proposed for public use, including parks, walkways, and community spaces, modeled on global urban planning standards.

CM Lalduhoma emphasized that the new approach addresses past confusion by ensuring transparency and public participation through the committee’s work.

In a separate development, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Mizo Diaspora Hub a digital platform developed in collaboration with LushAlTech aimed at strengthening connections between Mizos worldwide and enhancing citizen engagement under Mizoram’s digital governance agenda.
