Boosting Mental Resilience & Transforming Lives

Today in the fast-moving and developing times, as the pressure and stress increases, every other person undergoes some mental issues, which is addressable in a systematic way. In 2025, India's mental healthcare landscape is characterized by both advancements and persistent challenges in the field of psychiatry. While there's a growing focus on expanding access to mental health services through initiatives like the National Mental Health Programme and Tele MANAS, a significant shortage of psychiatrists and mental health professionals continues to hinder progress. As per the Economic Survey 2025, there’s a significant impact of workplace culture, working hours, and lifestyle on mental health and worker productivity. There’s an urgent need for improved workplace conditions and healthier lifestyles to boost employee well-being, which in turn, can enhance economic growth. Even in India, psychiatrists are largely in demand. In India about 1,000 psychiatrists enter the workforce every year, still there’s a dearth. Let’s say, if the goal is to have three psychiatrists per one lakh population, India would require 36,000 psychiatrists as per analysis.
The National Tele Mental Health Programme was initially budgeted 900 million rupees by the Indian Government for 2024–25, but the amount was reduced to 450 million rupees; the budget for 2025–26 is 796 million rupees. India's mental health budget 2025 needs urgent reform. Looking into this perspective where many psychiatrists are contributing to serving to increasing mental health issues across the country, siliconindia has recognized a few healthcare doyens from Karnataka and Maharashtra through its current edition ‘Psychiatrists from Karnataka and Maharashtra – 2025’.
